Golden Hashtag Awards

The McKay School social media has been rocking for a few years now! Since 2019 our team has received six awards given by BYU University Communications in the annual Golden Hashtags awards ceremony. Scroll to see a sampling.

Excellence in Authenticity

The pandemic pushed us all into unfamiliar territory. We all tried to do as much as we could for the 2020 graduates denied a traditional celebration. The faculty of our Educational Leadership and Foundations Department may have had trouble with their congratulations, but through our social media, their efforts became a gift to a world that needed a good laugh.

Excellence in Showcasing Diversity

For several years the McKay School has showcased diversity in our social media. This is an important part of creating belonging on our campus.

Excellence in Giveaway

This giveaway was planned by my colleague Sarah Rollo. T-shirt designs were solicited from the students through social media and other means. Then we gave the shirts away. It became a frenzy with people wanting them from Arizona to Ghana. Here is the post announcing the design contest.

Excellence in Implementation

Our Teacher Tip Tuesdays have been popular. They started with comment tips online, then we added highlights of faculty research and advertised McKay School programs like the BYU Arts Partnership and Project SEEL. One of our best-performing tips was during the beginning of COVID-19 to promote our McKay School at-home art lessons. BYU Magazine shared this post on their story and it gained traction.

Bonus Award

Here is one part of a series that went viral and impacted many people. We adapted Anthony Bates’s speech to social media.
